The Athens Concert Hall is one of the most pivotal and architectural acoustics projects in Greece.

Τhe key aspects of its acoustic design include:

1. The creation of lateral balconies that produce excellent lateral sound reflections necessary for the generation of the acoustic envelopment for the main audience area.

2. A dynamic acoustical ceiling that supports the adaptation of the Hall’s reverberation time to various musical functions and events.

3. The amalgamation of acoustical diffusion and reflection with the architectural intention, through the “vertebral” form of the Hall.

4. A carefully designed sloped floor so as to support both a clear sound reception and a fully unobstructed view of the stage from all seats.

5. Ten built in translation booths under the perimetric balcony designed based on the latest acoustic standards of the E.U.

The Thessaloniki Concert Hall was completed in January 2000. A main hall with a capacity of 1467 seats, as well as other activity spaces are included in the building.

The hall can host the following events: classical music concerts, ballet, opera, drama, as well as conferences. The ceiling and the side walls of the stage can adapt using specially designed mechanical means, in order to serve as a dynamic acoustical component that can transform the hall’s reverberation time.

Thessaloniki Concert Hall is ranked amongst the best Greek Acoustic Concert Halls along with the Heraklion Cultural Centre, the Athens Concert Hall and the new Opera House of Athens. In fact, external crits have mentioned that its reverberation time when the hall is empty is similar to that of the Vienna Hall and the Amsterdam Hall (class: Α+ “Superior”) and that the acoustic conditions, when the hall is fully occupied, are very good for symphonic music and opera performances.
