The Landmark of the Faliro Bay (Toposimo)

Faliro, 2012
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Being part of Faleron’s masterplan, the erection of the new landmark aims at the rejuvenation and modernization of Faleron’s Gulf. The new scheme should also contribute in the efficient performance of Faleron’s Park and the economical revival of the wider district.

Τhe proposed idea is influenced by both the functional requirements and the site context (historical and morphological).

Under this notion, the Landmark’s design is based on the resuscitation of the Old Faleron’s character through a contemporary proposal, acting as a social condenser.

The design concept of the proposal derives from:

a- The space flexibility and organization idea;
(Creation of column free public areas, which incorporate a wide range of events such as strolling, catering, social and cultural happenings), all related and originated from Old Faleron’s activities.

b- The site’s context, history and tradition;
(Integrating symbolic elements, also sourcing from Old Faleron’s Landmark buildings. Such features aim at connecting the past with the future and include the two parabolic arches –primary structural elements- in memory of hotel’s “Aktaion” dome and its most prominent segment, the sphere with the spike ending).

At the same time the above features provide a substantial height to the structure, which is crucial in order to make the landmark seeable from various (e.g. Makariou Av., Poseidonos Av. and along the route between Piraeus port and Athens)
